Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:
Welcome to Rankin School District #98 and to the 2017-2018 school year! On behalf of Rankin School District’s Board of Education, Staff, and Administration, thank you for sending your children to our District. Our highly trained and dedicated staff is committed to providing your children the best education possible as we believe, “Our School is a Great Place to Learn.” Our District’s overall goals, and what ultimately directs our decision making, can be found in our mission statement, “In order to meet the needs of our students, our school strives to expect academic excellence and provide a caring environment in which all students can become lifelong learners; enabling the students to succeed in our ever-changing world.”
As we embark on this mission, it is necessary that our District be governed by policies and procedures. Thus, our District has annually updated and prepared this handbook to assist you in providing this important information. Our handbook, which is in alignment with our Board of Education policy, works cooperatively with Illinois School Code to guide us along our mission. At the beginning of the year, we will familiarize our students with our overall expectations and code of conduct, but we strongly recommend that parents review this handbook with their children in advance of the school year. Occasionally, our formal resources do not account for all situations or for situations of extraordinary circumstances. In these special cases, our administrative team and Board of Education reserve the right to modify as necessary and provide the essential judgment and guidance needed.
It is my personal belief that all successful organizations and teams prioritize communication as a backbone principle. Thus, one of our District’s yearly goals will be to partner with parents in the educational process of our students. We encourage parents to develop a strong relationship with your children’s teachers and to stay current with our District’s news and information. Our District’s website www.rankin98.org serves as a tremendous resource and can assist in the process of being informed. This resource provides a variety of information including links to access our handbook, Board of Education policy manual, Board of Education meeting agendas, staff contact information, social media pages, and much more!
Due to your support for this District, the next two school years are most certainly going to be exciting and historic as we have begun the planning and construction process for the building addition of new classrooms and amenities (approx. 7,000 square-feet). The District website and our social media pages will be updated regularly to document and highlight pertinent information and news, which includes detailing the progress of the building addition.
Trusted leader and Principal, Mrs. April McLaughlin, and I will be serving as your administrative team. We can be reached regularly via the District’s phone number 309-346-3182 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com. While we encourage you to develop a high level of communication and involvement with your children’s teachers, we are able to assist you regarding the various questions and situations you may encounter.
Again, welcome to Rankin and to this historic 2017-2018 school year! Be bold, be proud - Go Rebels!

Welcome to Rankin School! All Kindergarten students and parents are invited to Kindergarten Night.
We are grateful for Mrs. Lamberson's initiative and interest in taking over our open position in Special Education. Mrs. Lamberson's transition to this position means we have been interviewing for a new 4th Grade Classroom Teacher. We are pleased to announce that Miss Cassie Smock will be our new 4th Grade Classroom Teacher. Please see Miss Smock's biography below!
From Miss Smock,
"My name is Miss Cassie Smock and I am incredibly excited to teach 4th grade at Rankin Elementary School! I graduated this past May from Olivet Nazarene University, where I studied Elementary Education. Prior to that, I attended Illinois Central College for two years. I have absolutely loved the teaching experiences I have gotten so far, and I get so much enjoyment from purposefully building relationships with my students. I look forward to bringing my enthusiasm for education and students to Rankin this year!
I grew up and live in Morton, IL with my family. My dad is a school administrator and my mom works at a bakery. My two younger siblings, Ryan and Kayla, are 20 and 19 and are studying engineering and education respectively. I have always enjoyed reading, writing, drawing, and being creative in my spare time. I love music, and I enjoy playing the piano, violin, and ukulele. I appreciate the “little things,” in life.
I view teaching as an incredible opportunity to make an impact in the lives of children, and I am incredibly excited to challenge and inspire the fourth grade students at Rankin this year. I adore the connections I’m able to make with students this age, and I count myself truly blessed for this chance to teach at Rankin Elementary!"
Welcome to Rankin Miss Smock!
