New Superintendent/Principal at Rankin Community School District #98
Rankin School District #98 announces the hiring of Mr. Steven K. Johnson as their new Superintendent/Principal.
Prior to taking over July 1, 2010 as Superintendent/Principal of Rankin School District #98, Johnson completed his tenth year as principal at Argenta-Oreana Middle School in Argenta. Prior to that time, he was a teacher and coach for seven years at Fairfield Elementary District #112.
Johnson earned his bachelor of science in education at Murray State University and earned both a master’s and specialist degree in education at Eastern Illinois University.
Johnson met his wife, Christine, who is from Decatur, while he was principal at Argenta-Oreana. She is a senior logistics technician with Caterpillar, Inc.
Mr. Johnson looks forward to working with the board of education, administration, staff, students, parents and community with the goal of offering the best possible educational program for the students at Rankin Community School District # 98.
Fairfield Elementary District #112, Fairfield, Illinois
• Re-structured Tech Prep program.
• Traveled to different states to talk with school administrators who had experienced tragic school violence.
• Designed, implemented, evaluated and updated School Safety and Emergency Preparedness Plan.
• Provided in-service for staff regarding Emergency Preparedness Plan.
• Named GTE Gift Fellow; 1996. Received $ 12,000 Grant through GTE. Traveled to Boston and Washington representing the school district. The Growth Initiative For Teachers Program recognizes excellence, innovation, and teamwork in teaching mathematics and science.
• Participated in the summer “Vocational Instructional Practicum.” Provides teachers with job shadowing opportunities in the areas of business and technology; 1996, 1997, 1998
• Coached Lady Colts to 3rd Place in the 1998 state finals.
• Coached Lady Colts to 2nd Place in the 1999 state finals.
• Named IBCA Coach of the Year; 1999

• Worked with “Project Max” development team through the Decatur and Macon County Chamber of Commerce and Macon County Farm Bureau. Agriculture and agriculture business student learning experiences; 2002

• Featured on Ag Day national television program supporting “Project Max.” 2003
• Presented at the Illinois Association of School Boards, Illinois Association of School Administrators, and Illinois Association of School Business Officials 72nd Joint Annual Conference; 2004
• AOMS recognized as a 2007 Illinois Honor Roll School and received and Academic Improvement Award
Mr. Johnson is replacing Mr. John Prinz, who is retiring after ten years of dedicated service to the District.
