Science Fun!

Science Club & 3rd Grade

by Rachel Lamberson/Amy Galletti

May 03, 2009

Rankin Junior High Science Club gave us a treat last week as we celebrated Earth Week.  The third graders were able to visit the junior high science room for their first science experiment.  Each science club member was assigned to a team of third graders to accomplish a task of protecting an egg from a six foot ladder drop inside an egg carton.  They were able to use tissue paper, rubberbands, paperclips, balloons and many other things.  The twist however was that each item cost money.  The team that had a non-cracked egg and used the least amount of money was the winner of the contest.  The teams were very creative and had many great ideas however, the team that won made a parachute attached to their milk carton with the egg inside.

The winners received a free soda from Mrs. Galletti.  The kids loved this experiment and loved working with the Science Club students who helped to make this a success!  Thanks to Mrs. Galletti for giving up her time and allowing all the elementary students to participate in an Earth Day science activity.
