Fourth Grade Learning Geometry

by Hilarie Clevenger

April 21, 2008

The fourth grade has been learning about geometry.  We have learned about lines, rays, angles, and polygons.  We are learning how to measure polygons and solid figures.  The formula for finding area is length times width.  To find perimeter, you add up all the sides.  For solid figures, you have to do that for each side of the shape.  To help us with surface area and volume of solid figures, we have been measuring boxes and calculating the answers in groups.  We have also been using unit cubes to help us.  The volume of the granola box was 90 cubic inches.  The surface area of the box was 152 square inches.  To finish up today, we played around the world with lines and shapes.  Watch our slideshow to watch us in action.  Join us again when we teach you about probability and statistics.  See you then!
